Hoe heb je besloten accountant te worden? Was er een doorslaggevend moment?
"When I was a child, I used to sit next to my parents watching the afternoon news on tv, waiting for the fifteen-minute market snapshot show to start, so that I can look at all the changes in the prices of the stocks. I do not know if it was the colors that fascinated me or the graphic charts of the stock price changes, but I just could not take my eyes off them. Growing up, I loved math at school, and I had a natural inclination towards economics, so I decided to study accounting and finance, thinking that finance will be my future. And then I had my first accounting class at the university. It was kind of a love at first sight, and I never thought of another profession since then."

Hoe is het voor jou om de beroepseed af te leggen?
"The only word that could describe the day of the graduation ceremony and taking the oath is 'special'. I took an oath, standing, amongst others, in front of my family and friends, vowing to embody as a person the values of a registeraccountant. I could only feel proud and empowered going through a moment of recognition that all of the efforts, including countless hours of studying and working have paid off."

Waar werk je en wat is je functie daar?
"I work at PwC Netherlands, and primarily for our Rotterdam office. My role is that of a senior associate and my responsibilities include leading audit teams, upskilling team members, reviewing audit work and managing engagement economics. What I also love about my role is the interaction with my clients, listening to their needs and making sure that deadlines are reached while ensuring the highest possible quality standards."

Wat maakt het bijzonder om daar te werken?
"The people and the culture. That is what honestly distinguished PwC from its competitors, when I was considering my options as a starting accountant. And since then, I have never regretted my choice. The company’s culture is strongly built around work-life balance and well-being. Historically, I had a strong inclination towards prioritizing work and not balancing it with my personal life, and I am very happy that I had people around me at my working environment who raised the concern and helped me change my approach."

Heb je een specialisatie of zijn er thema's waarin je je bijzonder interesseert?
"While my portfolio includes engagements from different sectors, my primary focus is on the chemical industry. What lured me into the chemical industry was the complexity of the products that my clients produce, as well as the regulatory framework around chemical products. Outside of the chemical industry, people around me know that I am always available for a long technical discussion about fraud, a topic that is somehow always relevant."

Wat is je leeftijd?
"I am happy to say that on the day that I took my oath, I also celebrated my 29th birthday."

Wat zie je jezelf over tien jaar doen?
"In ten years, I hope to have achieved one of my biggest professional ambitions and become a partner. What is important to me is not just the role itself, but the opportunity to make an impact for my clients and for the wider group of stakeholders who rely on financial statements. At the same time, one of the things I enjoy the most is sharing knowledge and helping others develop. That is why I would also love to be involved in teaching accounting and auditing, so that I can pass on what I have learned throughout my studies and my career to future generations of accountants. If I can combine those two things, making an impact and helping others grow, I think I will be very happy with where I am."
